The International and Ibero-American Association of Parenting Coordination Specialists (AIIECP) will collaborate in the “Conference on the Rights of Children and Adolescents in Contested Separations: Understanding Challenges and Implementing Solutions. The Voice vs. the Choice of Childhood and Adolescence.”
The Col·legi Oficial de Psicologia de Catalunya (COPC) is organizing this conference, which will be held on July 24. This event is aimed at professionals who, in their work, make decisions that affect children and adolescents (CNA): mental health, social work, law, mediation, politics, police, schools, child and adolescent care teams, primary care centers, legal operators, social services, police, schools, child and adolescent care teams, and primary care centers.
The rights of children and adolescents in separations and divorces are a matter of significant relevance for AIIECP. The participation of CNA in decision-making within the context of family law is relatively recent. Historically, CNA were seen as objects of protection from interparental conflict. Increasingly, they are recognized as individuals with their own rights. According to research in the Social Sciences field, not listening to them can cause more harm than good.
Going through a divorce can be challenging for children and adolescents. It is one of the most stressful situations for parents, who may lose sight of the rights of the youngest, which often conflict with their needs.
