As part of the international research project on crisis interventions in coparenting, titled “New Directions in Justice for 21st Century Families,” a group of parenting coordinators gathered in Santiago, Chile on May 14, 2023, to establish an International Association. The aim is to create a global network and continue developing spaces for reflection, research, and in-depth exploration of topics directly related to Parenting Coordination.
This group of professionals shared concerns about the rise in high-conflict family relationships in their respective countries and the impact this has on children. Such situations result in courts and administrations being unable to address this growing issue, risking children losing contact with one of the parents or extended family. Another identified issue was the increase in parents taking their children to another country without returning them to the other parent. Courts and states are seeking tools to protect these children and adolescents caught in coparenting conflicts.
